The journey began with a self-funded pilot episode filmed in Upleta, Saurashtra, Gujarat—a land rich in undiscovered folk melodies and musical traditions. Traveling solo, I met Ahir Malde, a revered folk musician whose raw, soul-stirring voice reflects the spirit of rural Gujarat.
With no crew and minimal gear, I captured an intimate pilot that resonated for its authenticity, emotion, and musical richness. In Ahir Malde's music, I found not just songs—but a living philosophy rooted in ordinary life. This powerful beginning affirmed the need for a deeper series exploring the hidden folk traditions across India.

Swar Bharat is a multi-episode documentary series that journeys through India’s 28 states and 8 union territories, capturing the powerful, often unheard voices of folk artists. From the deserts of Rajasthan to the hills of the Northeast, each episode unearths songs of love, devotion, land, and lineage—passed down through generations, yet absent from the mainstream.
Every episode begins in a modern studio, travels into rural heartlands, and ends with a recreated rendition—blending traditional sounds with contemporary music.
This storytelling has no space in commercial media, which often sidelines folk voices. That’s why Swar Bharat is crowdfunded—a people-powered movement to preserve India’s disappearing musical heritage. It’s more than a documentary; it’s a cultural archive and a celebration of the many voices that make India sing.
